Abstract

The article substantiates the necessity of the re-search into the informational component of sustain-ability and its consideration in the development of  indicator systems for sustainable development of territories. It is important to pay special attention to the information broadcast by the mass media, which, ac-cording to numerous public opinion polls, is a major source of new information for the Russians. The integral index of assessing the effectiveness of information in terms of sustainable development, calculated in the case study of environmental pollution data by the entities of the Russian Federation is given. On the basis of this index, the typology of regions and its visualization on the cartogram were performed.
