Abstract

The landscape-geochemical research has been conducted in the territory of Lgov which is a typical early town of the Central Chernozem Region. The patterns of transformation of original soils (chernozems, gray and alluvial soils) to their anthropogenic modifications in different functional zones of the town are revealed. The content level of heavy metals (HM) in the soil horizons has been defined and the ecological-geochemical assessment of soil condition has been given. The peculiarities of HM accumulation in the cultural layer (XVII—XXI), the most ancient part of the city has been studied. It was established that the anthropogenic soils are qualitatively new in comparison to the natural analogs of the properties and characteristics of the HM distribution on the profiles.

The study of HM contents in the vegetative organs of woody vegetation has allowed us to identify several species of plants that can be considered as bioindicators of pollution of landscapes of the town. Pinus sylvestris L. and Quercus robur L. have proved to be used as these indicators. These plants possess a significant accumulation of HM in their bodies in the areas of growth near the industrial facilities. Tilia cordata Mill is the most sensitive to the ecological-geochemical condition of urban environment (Fe/Mn index).

Keywords
