Abstract |
This work represents the results of soil investigation of the unique ar-cheological monument Ekaterinovsky Cape Burial Ground of the Early Eneolithic epoch (the end of the 5th — the beginning of the 4th centuries BC) in the Middle Volga Region. The necropolis Ekaterinovsky Cape is the largest burial of the Volga Region steppe and forest-steppe and in whole Eastern Europe. The epochal affiliation of this monument is determined by the totality of funeral rites and inventory features. The preliminary results make it possible to map out chronological position of the burial ground between the Mariupolsky and Khvalinsky times. The soil under investigation is typical сhernozems. Their morphological, physical and microbiomorphic properties were studied. The results showed the relation between the soil features and the natural conditions during the ritual burials organization. The burial ground was built under semi arid conditions of the Middle Holocene period. The soil was formed gradually under the impact of natural processes. |
