Abstract

Unfortunately, the prestige of Geography is unfairly at a rather low level. Here you can find a lot of reasons, but the main one is that today Geography as a separate geographical discipline has lost its object and subject of study. As a result, it is difficult to distinguish between Geography and other related sciences.

Therefore, Geography should return to its origin. Two main elements, i.e. territoriality and complexity, should be the basis of Geography. All the rest should be referred to the appropriate related sciences: economics, political science, geology, biology, physics, urban, demography, sociology, etc. Given this, human environment should be the object and the subject of Geography; we understand the environment as the complex of physical, economic and social spheres.

In this case, Geography can clearly take its place in the hierarchy of sciences, and no other science can claim for this object and subject of study.

The situation in Geography has affected the level and quality of the geographical education. Higher educational institutions prepare graduates-geographers who do not possess necessary knowledge. Geographical education is to comply with and respond to the real problems of the country and specialists-geographers should be competitive on the labour market.
