Abstract

The research is based on the Regional Data Base “Officinal plants and springs of Kamchatka”. This is the part of the Federal Data Base, created by the authors for the new medical geographical atlas “Healing springs and officinal plants of Russia” The Base generalizes actual scientific and cartographical information including the data collected by the authors during their expedition to the Kamchatka Peninsula. It is found out that only 40 vascular plant species are recognized by scientific medicine now, and they represent 3 % of the Kamchatka flora. These plants include 17 species of native flora, 20 invading species and 3 cultivated species. The taxonomic composition consists of 17 families, among them Asteraceae, Rosaceae, Lycopodiaceae are prevailing in the number of species. Maximal diversity of officinal plants grows in the Central and Southern floristic districts. Due to their pharmacological properties, the officinal plants of Kamchatka may be used for curing diseases of 13 classes according to ICD classification; a large number of plants may be used for the treatment of stomach and gastro-intestinal tract diseases, respiratory and blood circulation system diseases.
