Abstract |
The paper studies the population structure of the adventive species Helix pomatia in the eastern and southeastern part of its current habitat on the basis of the shell phenetic features (combinations of longitudinal brown bands). The authors analyzed 546 specimens from 12 colonies. In the course of studies, the reduced variability was detected (the average number of morphs Ц did not exceed 3.277 ± 0.521), as well as the great similarity of the studied colonies to the indicated traits (the phenetic similarity index r varies from 0.727 to 0.999) was found. The index of phenotypic subdivision of the populations turned out to be at a low level of Фst = 0.024, at P = 0.01. The authors put forward the assumption of similar selection vectors in the urbanized environment and the single origin of the analyzed colonies of the Roman snail. It leads to the formation of their specific phenetic appearance. |
