Abstract

As a result of the long historical development, currently Geography is considered as one of the main fundamental sciences. The glorious 100 anniversary of the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2018 also indicates it.

Modern Geography as a science, possessing unique scientific and methodical approaches to studying the geographical mande of the Earth, that combine the complex analysis ofthe interacting components of nature and society in space and in time, and also being enriched with the cutting-edge techniques of the analysis, assessment and forecasting of natural and economic geo-systems, becomes the major link in the solution of problems of steady balanced and ecologically safe development.

Moreover, modern Geography can be considered as a science for the future, the main content of which is the integration of knowledge and application of the results of fundamental geographical research in the practice of management and social and economic development of the regions and the country at large in the conditions of global changes of both nature and society.
