Abstract |
Steppe and forest-steppe landscapes of the Middle and Low Danube Region have close historic-geographical and biogeocenotic ties with the main Steppe Eurasia megaregion. Within the framework of the Russian Geographical Society Project “Steppe expedition”, the sites of the plain landscape natural heritage of the Danube Plain countries are listed into the single continuous ecological network of the Great Eurasian Steppe Belt. On the grounds of own research and reference material data generalization, a unified historical-geographical review of the Austria, Hungary, Serbia and Romania steppe landscapes has been given for the first time. The peculiarity of the natural area of preferential protection network in Hungary is large cluster type national parks embracing various modern landscapes with their elements of natural ecosystems, historical and cultural complexes and biodiversity conservation centres, first of all the ones for ungulate species. Within the territories of Romania, Serbia and Austria the steppe landscape fragments are conserved in nature parks and specialized nature reserves. |
