Abstract

The Muna River and its tributaries in the upper reaches are characterized as the waters of medium mineralization with slightly alkaline and alkaline medium, moderate level of hardness. The ionic composition of the water of the studied streams in the territory of engineering and environmental development is homogeneous and predominantly of bicarbonate-calcium composition. The organic matter content is below the detection limit of the analysis. According to the calculated water pollution index, all studied watercourses belong to the third class and are characterized as "moderately polluted" waters. The modern fauna composition of zooplankton in August 2007 in the basin of the Muna River is represented by 36 species, including rotifers 50 %, cladocera 36% and copepods cancers 14 %. The zooplankton fauna was represented mainly by widespread species.  Eight species of fish inhabit the studied area. Downstream the taimen lives. The most widespread species are the river minnow, the Amur minnow, the sharp-snouted lenok and the East Siberian grayling. The remaining species are few or noted in floodplain lakes. The sharp-snouted lenok spawns and fattens in the Uulaah Muna and Ulakhan Muna Rivers, they combine to form the Muna River. According to our data, there are no wintering pits for the lenok in the studied area.
