Abstract

The testing of various bio-testing systems for de-tecting acute toxicity of soils of the past environmental damage industrial facilities, located in the Leningrad Region, has been carried out for the first time. A com-parative analysis of the sensitivity and the information value of bioassay biotesting techniques was done. The main pollutants in the investigated soils were heavy metals and organic substances. The toxicity degree de-pended on the nature and concentration of contaminants. It was found that the use of a set of the bioassay systems, characterized by different sensitivity to ec-otoxicants, allows most fully to assess the extent of long-term anthropogenic impact on soils of the past environmental damage sites and give an objective de-scription of their ecological condition.
