Abstract

The dynamics of cellulose decomposition activity of chernozems in the steppe zone of the Transural Plateau are investigated (a case study of reserve “Arkaim” in the Chelyabinsk Region). The cellulose rate of de-composition of soil biota depends on the nature of the plant cenosis. Peaks of activity of cellulolytic microorganisms are identified in the spring-summer and early- autumn periods. The soils with natural vegetation as well as fallow soils were objects of studies. The observations carried out during the last 10 years after the introduction of the reserved mode. The purpose of the observations was to study natural recovery of soil microbial properties after stopping the agricultural treatment. According to the forecast the integral indicator of soil biological activity, i.e. cellulase activity, will approach the virgin state by 2045, 57 years after the cessation of agricultural use in the form of plowing.

Keywords

cellulose decomposition, natural reconstruction, agricultural treatment, unploughed soils, cellulase activity of the soil.
