Abstract

After 60 years since the accident, and the formation of the Eastern Ural Radioactive Trace (EURTa), the question of the return to economic use of contaminated areas, including lake ecosystem Malye Kirpichiky (M. Kirpichiky) is raised. In this regard, there are problems of studying functioning of the water body with the aim of finding the optimal conditions for its operation. The research is devoted to the analysis of the processes of accumulation and distribution of long-lived radionuclides 90Sr and 137Cs in water, sediments, soils, ecosystem and macrophytes in the slow water exchange in Lake Malye Kir- pichiky (the Chelyabinsk Region). The features of the redistribution of radioactive substances, depending on the fractional composition of soil organic matter of the catchment areas and species composition of aquatic vegetation are shown. The specific activity of radionuclides under study at the present stage in water, sediments, soils, macrophytes and catchment area of the reservoir is analysed. The total supply of radionuclides 90Sr and 137Cs in the water mass, sediment and macrophytes is calculated. The main types of macro- phytes of lake Malye Kirpichiky have a cumulative importance for certain types of pollution. The common features of the distribution of specific activity of radionuclides 90Sr and 137Cs among the various components of the reservoir (water, soil, sediments, macrophytes), allow us to understand more correctly the peculiarities of this body of water as an deactivating agent.

Keywords

long-lived radionuclides, the ecosystem, the system “water — bottom sediments — macrophytes”, an accumulation factor of pollution density, the total stock of radionuclides in superaqual and eluvial soil.
