Abstract

Two nearby located broadleaf forest plots were found on the right-bank of floodplain terraces of the Arkansas River (Sakhalin, the Kholmskiy District). One forest plot is formed by the protected relict tree Phello- dendronsachalinense. The area is 2 hectares and it numbers about 200 trees. Perhaps it is the biggest population of the Sakhalin cork-tree in Russia. The second copse area is 3.5 hectares. It consists of Prunusssiori, the tree also listed in the Red Data Book of the Sakhalin Region. Some other plants included in Sakhalin region and Russian Red Lists were also found in the area. A rare relict lichen Pyxinesorediata was found in the area which has not been reported for the Sakhalin Region before. It’s necessary to include the Arkansas River basin in protected areas because of the presence of big populations of rare species.
