Abstract

The aim of the work was an ecological and hygienic assessment of the impact of the polluted inflow on the quality of the water in the Don River near the city of Vor-onezh and the improvement of the monitoring system. Sampling the water was conducted in 2016—2017 (spring, summer, autumn). At each control point (7 points), 54 samples were selected. Twelve sanitary and chemical indicators of water quality were evaluated. The most significant technogenic effect of the brook “the Blue Danube” mixed with the wastewater from the urban water treatment facilities was identified on ammonium ion, the excess of the content standard of which was noted at the confluence site (9.75 times), below the confluence at a distance of 200 m (6.80 times) and in 500 m (4.85 times); on phosphate ion the standard was exceeded 1.47 times at the mixing point, as well as the indicators of biochemical oxygen consumption of 1.68—2.58 times and the chemical consumption of oxygen of 1.07 times. At the distance of 2 kilometers from the mixing point, the water pollution index in the river does not reach the background value (0.95 > 0.66).
