Abstract

At present, the condition of small rivers, especially in the European part of the country, as a result of the sharply increased anthropogenic load on them is assessed as catastrophic. The discharges of small rivers have significantly reduced. There are a great number of rivers that have ceased to exist recently; many others are on the verge of extinction.

The article considers the state of small rivers in the catchment area of the Kaluga Region. The article contains the data on the water resources of the Kaluga Region. It is shown that the small rivers and the chemical composition of water are formed mainly under the influence of springs and bogs waters. The data are presented on the dynamics of the distribution of the river discharge, the dynamics of the changes in the number of small rivers in the basin of the tributaries of the Oka River, the influence of marshes on the ecology of small rivers, and the state of the biocenosis. The article gives the data on the sewage pollution of the rivers of the region from industrial, communal and agricultural enterprises.
