Abstract

The article considers the formation of environmental conditions for the population in the Baikal Region. The increase in the degree of climate discomfort from the southern regions to the northern and northeast ones has been revealed. At the same time, the spatial differences in the self-cleaning ability of the atmosphere (SAA) are subject to local geographical features of the location and vary from extremely low in the intermontane depressions to moderately high on the apical surfaces. It has been established that the growth of emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere, together with low and extremely low SAA, supports a high and very high IZA. In this connection, cities, mainly located in the conditions of moderate discomfort, for many years included in the Priority list. The space-time features of fluctuations in morbidity and mortality of the population and the main indicator of living conditions are considered. The increase in the incidence of malignant tumors is identified. It is shown that the incidence rate gradient is directed from moderate discomfort towards increasing climate discomfort, and under the conditions of the same discomfort — from municipal areas towards more polluted urban areas. The ways to reduce air pollution are seen in the planning and selection of the locations for new production, and in the developed areas they are in searching for engineering solutions for the development of alternative technologies.
