Abstract | The issue of the preservation of the Arctic seas ecosystems is especially important for the Russian Arctic Region due to the economic activity of oil industry. The assessment of the potential environmental damage is necessary for the appropriate implementation of the accidental oil spills response measures. The authors proposed an approach to the assessment of possible environmental damage from oil spills in the foreshore area during the ice free season. This area is complicated for simulating, because it is under the influence of the periodic change of physical and chemical characteristics of the environment in which the spilled oil spreads. This approach is based on the synthesis of two mathematical models: the first is the model of oil spreading on the land surface; the second is the model of additives diffusion in the water. This method is described in the most likely cases of possible oil spills in the Kyanda Bay of the White Sea. |
