Abstract

The method of fractionating fresh-water mollusks based on the electrophoretic separation under denaturing conditions is improved. To increase the accuracy and effectiveness of the study, it is proposed to increase the time and temperature of proteins denaturation, as well as to perform protein electrophoresis under constant cooling; when fractionating, to use concentrating and separating gels; fixation should be carried out together with staining using 3.5 % formaldehyde solution in 25 % ethanol. This method was used to establish a protein sub-unit structure of the freshwater mollusk of the river snails (Viviparidae) and determine their molecular weight. The method can be very informative for solving the problems of ecological biochemistry of hydrobionts, including mollusks, as the most suitable objects for studying the mechanisms of biochemical adaptation to toxic effects, the detection of specific responsible for binding heavy metals metallothione in proteins, heat shock proteins and others.
